If you were born a Muslim, reading the Quran is not that hard at all. In fact, most ethnic Muslims find it very easy as they are either Arabic speakers or have similar languages as a mother tongue. However, although many Muslims can read the Quran, they do not read it ''properly.'' Tajwid is the set of rules governing the way in which the words of the Quran should be pronounced during its recitation. Unlike other languages, classical Arabic has multiple pronunciations for the same word. However, how important is Tajwid and do your children need to learn Tajwid online? Or is learning Quran online without Tajwid sufficient?

Incorrect pronunciation can change the meaning of verses

Unlike most other languages, the way you pronounce a word does not change the meaning of what you are saying. For example, if one pronounces the T in the word ''water'' or not, it doesn't change the meaning of what the person is saying. However, in Arabic , not pronouncing the Ain from the throat changes the meaning altogether.

For the above reasons alone, learning Tajwid is very important. We do not want ourselves nor our children to go about life reading the Quran in away that changes its meaning altogether. As we know, the Quran is the word of Allah and anyone who changes the meaning is potentially sinning majorly.

How to teach your child Tajwid

Engaged Learning for your child

Well if you want to go down the DIY route, then there is good material in the form of Books. The best book that would be easier for your child to understand would be Qaida Noorania. This book is widely used by teachers around the world as it does a good job at making children understand the rules of Tajwid.

If you are a working parent, then maybe the above option is not practical. Online Quran classes for children is the next best option. You will find qualified teachers who have immense experience in teaching children. Self-teaching may work for some but the best way to learn something is from people who have mastered what you are looking to learn. Online Quran platforms will give you this.
