The online Quran classes market is fairly new so there are bound to be places where change needs to take place in order for it to evolve in to something better. The online Quran classes industry has been majorly helped to keep the studying of the Quran alive for our children, however in this article I will be assessing the problems with online Quran platforms.

Poorly Vetted Tutors

Many online Quran platforms fail to really vet teachers.

Most teachers are from 3rd world countries. These teacher have experience in teaching the Quran but there is a serious language barrier. A lot of the tutors are from Egypt or Pakistan/India. The UK/America/Canada is where majority of the students of Online Quran classes are based. Therefore, it is paramount that these tutors speak good English. Teaching a child without having proper communication reduces the efficiency of the teaching. Unfortunately, you will find that a lot of online Quran platforms fail in hiring tutors that have good English speaking skills. The vetting process is not thorough enough thus creating problems in the teaching quality.

Safeguarding issues

This is a big one. Safeguarding is very important in todays day and age especially when you have children online interacting with people they barely know. Below are the two main safeguarding issues that occur on online Quran platforms:

1)Free Child and Tutor communication

The role of a tutor should be limited for the classes only. Anything outside of this must be managed by Online Quran platform representatives, parents and the tutors. Unfortunately, this isn't the case for many institutes who give full autonomy to tutors to freely schedule/re-schedule classes; all done through private messaging. The aspect of safeguarding is non existent.

2) Poor Background checks

Yes, tutors are doing a noble job in teaching the Quran but that doesn't make them immune to being a human. Not all humans are what they make themselves out to be. In order to keep our children safe online, we must do what we can. Many Quran online institutes fail to see this and do not require such important documents. Such attitudes can be very dangerous to children.

The role of an institute

So what is the role of an institute? Is it just a platform where one can get connected to an unvetted tutor? Does that justify the premium that people are paying?

An institute has a bigger role. Not only is its purpose to vet credible and safe tutors, but its job is to help create quality and enhance the learning of the child. An institute must add to the service by helping parents understand what their child is learning and what they need to look out for in the future. Furthermore, children must be incentivised by institutes placing children in competitions. All these are the responsibility of online Quran institutes which unfortunately is being neglected.

Final Thoughts

In order to have an efficient teaching platform which enhances the learning process, the above points need to be considered. Vetting your tutors and making sure they are safe to be teaching children is compulsory practice in other education departments and the same must apply for Quran teaching too.

The Quran Hour is one of the only Quran online platforms for children that prioritises the above points made. Vetting for the best English and Quran teachers as well as making sure that they are safe is The Quran Hours priority.
