Where are most online Quran teachers from?

Most online Quran platforms outsource their tutors from different countries. This can be due to mitigating costs or possibly due to the higher level of qualifications in certain areas. In this article we will discuss where a lot of the online Quran teachers are from and why they are selected by online Quran academies.

Egypt

Egypt is the hub of Quran learning. Egypt is also the home of the worlds most renowned Muslim university ; Al-Azhar University. If an online Quran academy hires tutors from Egypt, then we can assure you they are good tutors. Tutors worth their salt have Ijazas (permissions.) These Ijazas are given to tutors by highly qualified Quran sheikhs who themselves have the ijaza.

Having said this, you must know that if you are looking for English speaking tutors, there are only a handful of Egyptian teachers that have a good grip of the English language. We have noticed that some platforms hire tutors without any vetting hoping that they will be good only because they are from Egypt.

The Quran Hour does an impeccable job at vetting online Quran teachers. All tutors are qualified Quran teachers from Egypt and speak fluent English. Its doesn't stop there though. All the tutors at The Quran Hour are CRB checked too.

Pakistan

The cheaper platforms tend to outsource their tutors from Pakistan. Pakistan is also a very popular place where Quran is taught at a high level. However, it is 'hit and miss' because a lot of the tutors aren't actually qualified. Unlike Egypt who have a system of Ijazah, there is no real qualification metric to assess how well they teach the Quran.

The other issue with tutors from Pakistan is the lack of English speaking skills. Majority of the tutors are from very impoverished areas of Pakistan where there is hardly any education. Therefore, finding someone with good English speaking skills is very difficult.

UK

Online Quran teachers that are qualified in the UK have a good grip of tajweed. However, most importantly, tutors from the UK have the best grip of the English language. Tutors from the UK also follow safeguarding guidelines better than the other two countries mentioned above. Therefore, prices in the UK tend to be twice the prices than other tutors from other countries.

Final thoughts

Quran teachers from anywhere in the world can be beneficial however, the chances of finding good tutors are higher in certain places than they are in others. For the best value for money, we would advise to look for Egyptian tutors. Tutors from Egypt have the qualifications, and if you find the right one, they'll also have good English communication skills.
